NC Sales Tax Increase

The North Carolina State sales tax has increased by one percent effective September 1, 2009.  As a result of the increase, the combined state and county tax rate will increase to 8.25 percent in Mecklenburg County, 8% in Alexander, Catawba, Cumberland, Haywood, Martin, Pitt, Sampson and Surry Counties and 7.75% in the remaining 91 counties.  In addition, various changes were made to the rules for collecting NC sales tax for online sales.
